AbstractThis study mainly modifies the collision resolution processes of the ex1stmg Distributed Queuing Random Access protocol (DQRAP) in aim to further improve its present performance. Modifications utilized distance of each station involved in a collision to prioritize retransmission of its request for data slot reservations. There are three other versions (Versions 1, 2 and 3) aside from the original version of DQRAP have been investigated in this study. Version 1 is just the modification of the collision resolution part of the original DQRAP as mentioned in the methodology. Version 2 is the original version with the addition of distance of each station from the head end. Version 3 used the same collision processes as version 1, however distance of each station from the head end was added into it. Results obtained indicate considerable improvement of the original DQRAP protocol in terms of the average delay after the modification have been implemented, especially for the input rate beyond 0.5. Also, when distance of each station is considered, the maximum delay of the farthest station involved in a collision in the modified version 3 is much shorter than in the modified version 2. However, this achievement in the improved performance in terms of delay must be traded with the expense of the resulting small decrease in the system's throughput and a little bit higher complexity in the programming implementations of the said modification of the collision resolution part of the original DQRAP
