AbstractThe incredible growth of the Internet is fostering a rapid movement of financial institutions into the electronic arena. The majority of financial institutions worldwide are in the process of implementing, or planning to implement some form of Internet presence. The virtual stampede into this new marketplace is being slowed only by a widespread concern for the safety and security as confidential information and sensitive payment instructions are launched into the uncharted sea of the World Wide Web. The discussions about the opportunities and pitfalls of Internet Banking also called Electronic Banking are commonplace in industry magazines and foras. This research study will thus attempt to condense the wisdom of those groups, individuals and institutions for whom the study of the Internet as a vehicle for commercial activity is a full-time occupation. The goal is to look into the issue from holistic perspective and bring at front secmity 1isks that do exist and the countermeasures that can be taken to limit those risks with specific reference to banking industry in Thailand.
