AbstractThis research study tries to analyse the effect of new wireless technology (Bluetooth technology) on hearing aids industry. There are a lot of benefits of bluetooth technology that hearing aids industry can make use of, especially in connectivity between hearing aids and other bluetooth enabled devices. Although the benefit is huge, but so far the size of bluetooth module and power consumption have put the limitation into the implementation of the bluetooth technology on hearing aids industry. Besides the size and power consumption, there are some other problem that need to be resolved, such as radio frequency interference from bluetooth transmitter, the complexity of bluetooth circuitry, and the quality of sound, before bluetooth technology is applicable for hearing aids industry. Besides discussion about bluetooth technology, this research also analysis hearing aids industry based on Porter 5 forces and current strategy that hearing aids industry has taken to anticipate the competitive environment and the emergence of new wireless technology. At the end, this research analysis several scenarios that can happen in the future and tlies to point out the most likely scenario that may emerge in the future. And based of this scenario, this report gives some recommendations for the hearing aids industry in order to anticipate the emergence of new wireless technology. 1 II. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The achievement and the success of this research study are mainly comes from different supports and helps. First of all, I would like to say thanks to the God who has given me wisdom, strength, health and encouragement to do and finalize my research study. My second word of thanks I would like to address to my advisor Bechter Clement and my committee members John C.S.Tang and Sang-Kon Lee that have guided me through out my research work until the completion of this research. Special thanks I also want to address for Enrico Lacet, Poul Rosenkilde Kristensen, and Henrik Ravn from Microtronics and Kee Chin Min from Knowles Electronics (M) Sdn.Bhd. that have spared their precious time for my company interview. And for Mark Boulton and his advisor Brian Lithgow that have given me valuable comments and literatures about Bluetooth connectivity with hearing aids. Many thanks I would like to say to Joshua Tan Bock Swee (Siemens), Mark Lambert (Cambridge Consultants Ltd, UK), Brent Miller (IBM), Ray Wilton (Emkay products), Francis Beecher (researcher), and Paul Mahoney (GN Netcom) for their comments and information that I got through my email interview with them. Finally, my sincere thanks go out to my family and my friends at AIT-Christian Fellowship and Indonesian Christian Association (Persekutuan) for their prays and continued supports not only for my research study, but also my entire study program on School of Management, Asian Institute of Technology.
