AbstractOver many years, production processes and human consumption patterns have developed without much regard to their environmental effects. This has resulted in water and air pollution, soil degradation and wide reaching problems such as thinning of the ozone layer. Cleaning up afterwards and treating the waste is not enough. Cleaner production helps to protect the environment by reducing pollution and waste at source. This minimizes the environmental impact, improves efficiency and reduces costs. This study takes place in the context of growing national interests to promote Cleaner Production Technology in Textile Company- Kabool Lanka (Pvt) Ltd in Sri Lanka. Cleaner Production is becoming increasingly recognized as an effective tool in the protection of the environment and economic development. It is one of the tools of Eco- efficiency concept towards to positive environmental benefits. The research seeks to identify methods and approaches to boost the successful transfer of the Cleaner Production concept to Textile Company, which is lacking previous substantial and systematic experience with Cleaner Production through analyzing the UK textile companies experiences. The researcher observed in the analysis, the water consumption, waste generation and the energy indicators in Kabool Lanka (Pvt) Ltd is very much higher than the UK textile industry. The company Kabool Lanka (Pvt) Ltd is consuming high volume of water than the amount of Best Practice program, UK; generating huge amount of wastewater, less concentration in effluent parameters and high electricity consumption with comparing to the UK textile industry. And also in this research, it was identified that the key polluted stages of the production processes of the company. In this study realized that the company is not in the track of Cleaner Production technology.
