Abstract | Looking at the situation of Insurance and Reinsurance industries in Thailand, it was important to remind the basics of insurance business: risk assessment and assets management that provide a strong base to build a business strategy. The late must cope with a cyclic activity and two trends that command the industry worldwide: globalization and liberalization. Thai insurance market opened in 1997 to foreign actors as a first step in the liberalization process. Fm1her implementation is expected before 2008 to reach a full possible foreign ownership, on line with WTO requirements. The Crisis in 1997 confused the issue and deeply affected the insurance industry that is now emerging from the tmmoil. As the actors become more active, business processes need to be re-engineered, especially for domestic companies willing to compete professionally according to international standards. |
