AbstractThis thesis presents a design of Speech Recognition System adopting the three approaches: Hidden Markov model approach, Linear predictive coding(LPC) analysis and Vector Quantization Methodology. The project is developed from the previous study by Dusadee Treeumnuk, "Implementation of Speech Recognition" which was aimed to design the system in chip that the pattern classifier was designed in a hardware implemented on FPGA. Whereas some parts of the system were designed into a software form such as endpoint detector, pattern training and Spectral Analysis. However, the result has proved that there are some drawbacks that need a further development This study puts focus mainly on how to design the whole system to be able to work real time. As a result, the Spectral Analysis was designed as a hardware instead and works in accordance with Pattern Classifier of Dusadee's. The other parts are still in the form of software as previous designed by Dusadee. The whole system was designed by VHDL Language. Then, it was tested on FPGA. The new design, Spectral Analysis in hardware was tested to compare its results with the previous one, software, and the results are identical. Finally, the entire system was tested with the 20 English words. The Spectral Analysis and Recognizer are implemented completely on FPGA with recognition efficiency of 90.5%.
