| Abstract | China's chain supe1market developed tremendously in last two years and it is perceived to become a new economic growth point with great potential. At the same time, due to the China's access to WTO, the competition becomes more escalated and fierce than ever before. In order to survive and win the battle, it is necessary for domestic retailers to learn the advanced experiences from their foreign counterparts combined with the study of its own specific needs. In this aspect, private label brand is just a very useful strategy to increase profit margin and build strong retailer brand for retailers. This strategy has been applied and at the muture stage in the Western country but it is only an initiative stage in China. This research study is an attempt to understand PLBs' development initiatives in developed countries and to explore how the PLBs could be applied to Chinese retailers. The author chose a representative chain supermarket-BLC Group-in Hebei province and addresses major issues associated with the feasibilities, prerequisites of developing PLBs strategy in Hebei province of China and the formulation of PLBs strategy for the company. As this topic is nascent and evolving in China, this research paper provides general guidelines for the China domestic retailers. |
