Abstract | Session Initialtion Protocol ( SIP) is a new signaling protocol developed to set up , modify, and tear down multimedia sessions over the Internet. The Vovida Open Communication Application Library (VOCAL) software was used as the tool to investigate the SIP protocol and its entities in this thesis. The VOCAL software is the available software which implemented all SIP entities. We studied in details SIP specifications. We investigated about SIP with the VOVIDA version of SIP called Vocal. We tried several mechanisms to show how Vocal version 1.2.0 suits the specifications of SIP in the RFC 2543. We tested the main features of SIP in order to know if Vocal supports them. The aim of the report is to understand the machanisms, the behaviors and the entities of SIP protocol. Moreover, we also include the personal mobility aspect for the SIP protocol. The VOCAL SIP implementation conforms to the specification in RFC 2543 with regard to all it constituent components which are user agent client. For the personal mobility aspect, we can successfully test that SIP can support this kind of mobility. |
