AbstractThe necessity for the flexible electric systems, changing regulat01y and economic scenarios, energy savings and environmental impact are providing motivation to the development of distributed generation. Distributed generation (DG) is predicted to play an increasingly role in the electric power system of the future. With several distributed generation installed, DG has a high potential to improve the distribution system performance when we need to upgrade the electric grid. Thus, an important task is to find the best locations and sizes of distributed generators to minimize the loss and defer the investments for electric grid upgrade. Genetic algorithms work on only objective function, with the capability to handle the optimization problem, especially combinatorial problem. Optimization of DGs placement is one kind of these. This thesis applies genetic algorithm to find the optimal of given distributed generator placement in the distribution system. ThaiBinh province's l lkV and 35kV practical systems are used for testing the algorithm in this thesis. Results of the study indicate that the genetic algorithms are suitable for finding optimal DG placement since they could lead to the optimal placement.
