Abstract | Optimal capacitor placement in distribution system is a method for reducing of technical power losses and voltage drops, which is important to the utilities and social economic development. In this study, typical daily load shapes are used to calculate losses in the system. The developed genetic algorithm program and PSS-ADEPT software are used to analyze the performances of primary feeders of Hanoi Power Company (HPC) distribution system. All the system is the balanced and this configuration is made of single circuit as required. The optimal capacitor placement with the minimized cost has been obtained in this study. In order to make the comparison between PSS-ADEPT and the Genetic Algorithm, all the system data and configuration and economic data input of these programs are the same. One distribution substation of HPC is chosen to optimize capacitor placement. PSSADEPT with CAPO function is used to optimize capacitor placement of this substation's feeders by placing shunt capacitors. The genetic algorithms for optimization are used to develop the GA program to optimize capacitor placement of this substation's feeders. The two results obtained from the above programs will be compared. |
