AbstractThe Internet GIS as a medium for providing Tourism Information System (TIS) is relatively new and still in its early stages. The thesis has objectives to find out the solutions and specifications on the appropriate deployment of Tourism based GIS {TGIS) application. The main task of the Samui TGIS site is to provide an efficient interactive system based on tourist info1mation retrieval and analysis. In this study, the function, tools and system have been evaluated from the user side and technical side. The user interface, navigation structure and function tools were justified from tourist strategic view by analyzing the field work questionnaires. In technological foundation, the dynamic architecture for distributed GIServices for tourist was evidenced by studied of the web system architecture and assessed the available WebGIS softwares. The simple and sophisticate GIS functionality were interpreated in prototype application. One is to deploy standard tools to interact with the map display and infmmation retrieval. The second more innovative and interactive method provided user Multi Criteria Information (MCI) to search for the specific tourist destination required. The study also intends to improve the online TIS map that has a constraint of cartographic facility. The Level of Details (LoD) concept was implemented to update and adjust the map symbol to the new realities. Among many approaches of the research, web based TGIS application reflects its intended use by the government and private agency as an efficient tool for tourist decision support and planning. Samui intended to be a case study where the facilitated functions were applied to this system.
