AbstractMarble is widely used as decoration material in the construction industries. The waste material which is generated as a by - product during the cutting process of marble poses a serious problem to the environment. The purpose of this study is to identify the feasibility of using marble dust as a filler in mortar and ingredient to make cementitious materials by mixing with rice husk ash. The experimental programs consist of 3 pa1is. The first part is to investigate the chemical compositions and physical prope1iies of marble dust from marble resources in Thailand. The second pa1i is to determine the optimum mix proportion of marble dust - rice husk ash, which will be used as cementitious materials in making mortar by the investigation of its compressive strength and flexural strength. The final part is to study the influence replacement of marble dust for sand on compressive strength and flexural strength of mo1iar. The test results indicated that the marble dust burnt together with rice husk in a ferrocement incinerator and interground with rice husk ash can not be used as cementitious materials due to the low compressive strength of the marble dust - rice husk ash mortars. The reasons are the burning temperature was probably too low and the burning duration was too short to calcine the marble dust. However, it can be effectively used as sand replacement in mortar. The compressive strengths of mortar containing marble dust were found to be higher than that of control mortar and the optimum percentage replacement of marble dust was found to be 10 % with an increase in compressive strength of 74 %
