Abstract | The most important aspect that facilitates construction projects to accomplish the goal of profit maximization is cost planning and control. However, with project sizes steadily increasing, the need for cost planning and control has expanded and reached almost critical importance. Information system and technology (IS&IT) is a system of information administration for construction projects in order to communicate and transmit complete and precise information maps on logical information documentation to the right management participants with appropriate networks and flows by use of proper information technology. So, to discern the performance of construction projects, an assessment is a necessary process that can be used to accomplish this purpose. In this thesis, an appropriate IS&IT framework for cost planning and control was developed based on existing theories with the goal to be a standard or baseline. Therefore, raw data was collected from construction projects and inspection materials were invented to satisfy this purpose. Raw data that was collected during the data collection process was analyzed based on the appropriate IS&IT applications framework. The problems and causes for each major IS&IT component were identified for each construction project using a data analysis process. A validation process for finding problems and causes was also set for this study. Finally, recommendations for corrective actions were proposed in order to improve IS&IT applications for cost planning and control of construction projects. |
