AbstractConstruction claims have increasingly become inevitable in a major construction project. Even in the project that has a cautious performing of contract administration with a thoroughly planned in advance could not perfectly get rid of the occurrence of claim issue. A great deal of money and time merit of claims raises themselves as one of the most crucial and critical tasks that prudent construction companies should not overlook. This study is objective to survey the construction claims management practices in Thai construction companies by collecting data from both contractors and consultants through questionnaires and in-depth interviews. This paper presents the findings that lack of awareness of on-site people is concerned as the major problem of claims management. Inadequacy of supporting evidences, stemming from an unaware project personnel as well as improperly designed documentation system, is further serious shortcomings causing a loss of chances to recover incurred damages. To overcome these problems, it is recommended that the management level should pay more attention to these aspects for having an effective claims management system, which unnecessary losses could substantially be reduced and deserving compensation would be recovered.
