AbstractIn an ad hoc network, all communications is done over the wireless media without the help of centralized infrastructure. Each transmitter of mobile node has limited transmission range. As a result, direct link is allowed only between two neighbors that are in transmission range of each other and the distant nodes have to communicate by multihop paths. When the ad hoc network is interconnected with wireline network with QoS support, the extension of QoS application to the ad hoc network is necessary. However, The QoS routing in an ad hoc network is difficult since the dynamic topology and the uncertain resources of the links. This research proposes the probability model to study the probability of QoS routing in ad hoc wireless network. In the wireless network, a mobile node can enter or exit the network area at any time. So the probability of joining network area of each node is considered in the proposed ad hoc model. In addition, the upper bound on the probability of unicast routing based on the multihop characteristic is calculated for the ad hoc WLAN. The probability of routing is computed for the case that the mobile nodes are randomly distributed over the network area with Gaussian distribution. In addition, the overall performance of the proposed probability model, the effects of the system parameters to the probability of QoS routing, is studied. The considered system parameters are probability of joining network area, QoS requirement, and parameters that effect to the probability of routing which are dispersion index and network size. For the case that the probability of QoS routing is predefined, the threshold probability and time of joining the network area as the most adjustable parameter are calculated to achieve the desired probability of QoS routing.
