AbstractThis research developed the conflicting study manual as a computer package to assist in studying traffic conflict at an intersection. The required inputs of the developed package are configuration and characteristics of the intersection such as number of approach lanes, signal pattern, lane marking etc. While the outputs are the types and number of possible conflict locations as well as the minimum sample sizes in term of conflict survey periods. To demonstrate the application of the developed package as well as to examine the effect of the traffic signal, two T-intersections of which one is signalized intersection and another is non-signalized in Bangkok were selected. It was found that number of conflicts at the signalized intersection were obviously less than the non-signalized intersection. However, for left-turn movement conflict, results of the findings showed that there is no significant (at 95% level) difference in the means of number of conflicts of these two intersections. Thus, it can be concluded that although traffic signal can minimize certain types of conflict, left-turn type of conflict is exempted. The main reason may due to the fact that Thai motorists often disregarded and disobeyed the traffic signal especially for left turning. They often slow down but did not completely stop and wait for proper right-of-way. They may intrude other's privilege as such caused a high number of conflicts as presented in this study
