Abstract | This study presents the development of GIS based computer package to determine the shortest possible routes of the emergency vehicles in Khon Kaen. In addition, the developed package also contains the database system to assist the dispatcher to easily locate the accident site. Landmarks and street networks as well as intersection names are incorporated into the developed digital map of Khon Kaen. The developed package can be used as a decision support tools. It has capability to locate accident site, calculates the shortest possible route, displays the travel direction and information including the accessibility for updating road networks status such as temporary closure of street and re-opening, etc. Furthermore, this package used GIS capabilities to achieve the optimum results, but did not require its users to be familiar with GIS software, instead, it provided a customized graphical interface. Package performance is validated by two validation tests and it was found that the developed package is suitable to determine the shortest ambulance routes in Khon Kaen. |
