AbstractMangrove forest plays an important role in coastal ecosystems. In 1980s, mangrove clearance for sluimp pond, agriculture and other human activities led to the loss of large mangrove area in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Recently, the replanting of mangrove forest has been relied on in Ca Mau Province, where is directly managed by Forestry and Fisheries Enterprises following the policy of Forest Land Allocation. Effo1is have been made to develop the integrated mangrove forest - aquaculture in the area and this work has attracted many local people involved. The present study was carried out in Enterprises 184 and Ngoc Hien by using Rural Rapid Appraisal method to assess the macro and farm management of the integrated mangrove-aquaculture farming systems in the Buffer Zone of Ca Mau Province. It has been found that among four identified farm systems: (1) mangrove-traditional farm, (2) mangrove-hatchery shrimp farm, (3) mangrove-hatchery shrimp cum crab farm and (4) mangrove-hatchery shrimp cum crab and blood cockle farm. Tlu·ough the technical analysis, it is indicated that natural shrimp yield of the mangrove-shrimp farms and mangrove-shrimp cum crab fa1m correlated to the location of farm, water area, sediment depth, harvesting techniques and exchanged water level. In terms of financial analysis, the net income and rate of profit per cost of farmers who have farmed the mangrove-shrimp cum crab farms were highest and mud crab was a good alternative income for households. Furthermore, the current management policies of the Government towards the integrated mangrove-aquaculture farming systems in the studied area show highly effective.
