AbstractThe area under study is predominantly inhabited by Raviopi Village whose main occupation is agriculture. This study is about how women and men (from different caste and different education level) involved in different agricultural activities have access to different resources and benefits and have different responsibilities. This study aimed to focused gender issues, and situation analysis of women, gender specific roles and contribution in Raviopi household activities in agricultural development program. An attempt is made to assess extent of women participation and barriers to their involvement in the decision-making roles within the household. The survey was conducted using Harvard Analytical Tools to evaluate the division of labor and access to control over the resources. A total of 40 sample households were surveyed. The survey revealed that there is gender division of labor in agriculture and household activities by caste and by education. Some works are only responsibilities of men and women exclusively do some works. Seasonal activity calendar showed that women's labor participation more than men's do women's total work in agriculture and household activities was significantly higher than men's total works. The survey found that the women labor participation in different caste groups most of the labor participation of backward caste women group was strongly participated and forward caste group of women's labor participation was also strong but forward caste participation was less in agricultural activities. Women (from all castes) have less access to control over the resources. In spite of women's higher labor contribution in agricultural activities their participation in the decision-making role in the agricultural activities is substantially lower. Despite these, women face different barriers in participating is unequal gender relation, which has caused women's heavier workload in both the households and community labor activities. Other barriers are domination of men in society, cultural factors such as attitude that women are less capable. This study shows that there are much of disparities on allocation of resources within households. Therefore women have to be empowered to certain extent in capability building, active participation in decision making within household and outside in community, in public affairs and involvement in the local market. For these points, social barriers (who have being affecting to women's career development) should be changed.
