AbstractThis research investigates the market for foreign investment fund in Vietnam and considers an entry strategy into that market. So fa r, the operations of international investment funds in Vietnam, despite the initial eagerness and efforts to explore the potential securities market, have depicted a gloomy picture. The strategy to invest in listed companies faces a dilemma due to the poor supply of securities in the markets. Venture capital, another strategic direction, has faced big problems in target investments, appraisal, valuation and so fo1ih. The fund investment industry, therefore, came to a standstill at the end of 1990s. There are new funds, after the period of "wait and see", have decided to put into actions all their considerations about potentials and risks of the market. Mekong Enterprise Fund is one of those new. The Fund's strategy has shown a competitive differentiation compared to the predecessor funds. The Mekong fund's strategy, therefore, will be analyzed as a case study, in order to support for the research's final recommendations of entry strategy It is also concluded that some strategy implementation approaches would work for the investment funds, in general, such as a promising strategic alliance, a proper human resource management, an onshore structure model or a process of strategy assessment and control.
