Abstract | TCP switching combines the advantages of packet switching and circuit switching by using circuit switching in the core and packet switching in the border network. With shared bandwidth and transmitting voice over data network, the voice over IP technology is used to transmit voice over an IP network with a suitable quality of service and a reduced cost. This research proposes a plan for a new VoIP network in Viet Nam. The proposed network uses TCP switching technology to merge the core of three existing VoIP operators VNPT, SPT and Vietel into a common core network. In order to plan a new VoIP network, the existing VoIP networks are investigated and some parameters are measured in PSTN, including carried traffic, number of calls, number of successful calls, number of congested calls, number of B-busy calls, number of unanswered calls and number of unsuccessful calls. Based on measurement results, busy hour traffic values, mean holding time, call completion ratio and blocking ratio are calculated. These parameters are used to dimension a new VoIP network using TCP switching technology. The delay of the existing VoIP network is calculated to check the quality of service of the existing VoIP network. This value is used to calculate inactive time out for disconnecting of the circuits in a new VoIP network using TCP switching technology. |
