AbstractGrouting performance in the foundation treatment of the Tha Dan dam was studied. The study included work on first phase consolidation grouting of the main dam and some part of second phase consolidation grouting and curtain grouting. Cement take data were collected to compare with the geological. condition i.e. RQD map, Lugeon map, rock mass classification and geological structure. High cement take was observed in faults, low RQD zones, high Lugeon value zones and poor rock condition area. Other than this area, low cement take was generally found due to tight joints and vertical joints orientation. Grout mix used at Tha Dan dam is considered to be rather thick. The water pressure tests have not been done after grouting at lhe time of study. The evaluation of the dam foundation treatment in this research was performed on the basis of grout take statistic methods. The comparison of dam foundation grouting at Tha Dan dam and the other dam projects included the geological structure, grout mixture and relationship between Lugeon value und cement take was done. No clear relationship between Lugeon value and cement take at Tha Dan dam was observed. Cement take was high in the primary and secondary grout holes and it decreased in the tertiary and quaternary grout holes. Cement take was directly proportional to grout pressure but it decreased in the rock zones deeper than 30 m from foundation level.
