AbstractIn the development of economic growth process, the research institutions play the roles of in not only as the creators of new technology but also as the vehicle of transferring technologies needed by productive and business enterprises to match with the competitive market. But the research institution cannot just develop the new technology and easily handover to industry and wash their hand of it. They should have collaboration with industry in order to make full use of the transferred technology from the adoption stage to the commercialization stage. Companies now are turn to the research institution because the urgent needs to keep up with the global competitive market. This research attempts to identify the success and failure factors of technology transfer from national research institution to agriculture industry in Malaysia. Five companies that received technology from MARDI has been surveyed. From the data collected from these five companies and Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institution (MARDI), some variables are identified to be major factors for successful transferring technology from MARDI to companies. Based on these findings, some recommendations have been drawn to the national research institution, companies and government to help better technology transfer.
