Abstract | The explosive growth data traffic fueled by the rapid technological change, market driven by fast changing customer's behavior as well as the fierce competition due to globalization has pressured both incumbents and new entrants in telecommunication industry to reconsider their network infrastructures and business strategy. TOT, as an incumbent telecommunication operator in Thailand, has already got a wide and strong subscriber based. The need to enhance its existing networks to face the explosion of data traffic and the growth of higher bandwidth encourages TOT to converge voice and data to enable users to access any type of services. The analysis of internal operation, products/services, technologies currently used and needed in the future, and capability of the enterprise is based on the model of ten steps of technology strategy formulation. Next Generation Network (NGN), the new converged network of voice, data and multimedia, not only provides more services but also provides cost effectiveness in term of maintenance and time to market. The introduction ofNGN shall be considered as a competitive advantage for TOT in the coming open market. With respect to existing networks, the strategy is to extend its life as much as possible. In addition, the incremental upgrading and migration strategy is recommended to ensure that the migration from PSTN to NGN will be smooth, simultaneously maintains the quality and reliability of various existing services. |
