Abstract | In this study, 'the production process of chitosan from shrimp shell has been investigated. A special focus was on the effect stored of material sources and the decaying process on chitin/chitosan quality. The shrimp waste material sources were stored for this purpose was stored in a 30°C incubator for different period of time (0 day, 2 days, 3days and 4 days,). It was found that the chitosan produced from shrimp shell brought in fresh form to BPT building gave the highest viscosity after 1- day decay and the chitosan produced from shrimp shell brought to BPT in frozen fo1m gave highest viscosity after 2- day decay. The viscosity of chitosan obtained from these two treatments were 3591 cPs and 3577' cPs for fresh and frozen shell as starting materials respectively. The viscosity of chitosan solution obtained from fresh and frozen shell without decaying were 2200 cPs and 2700 cPs respectively. It was also found that by allowing to occur, the decay process to the shrimp shell needs less HCl to accomplish the decalcification, resulting in an ash value less than 1 %. It was important to mention that the production of many organic acids during the decay process was one of the main reasons that led to the increase of the viscosity of chitosan and reached a high value. |
