| Abstract | It was only about a year back that the concept called new economy had been discussed with a lot of enthusiasm in concerned circles all over the world. There was a lot of hype and worries about the existence of the so-called new economy. The research intends to explore the ideas, concepts, facts, and myths related to the first widely praised and now widely lamented new economy. The New Economy is neither stable nor predictable, and business cycles appear to have changed in the wake of the IT revolution. In this highly dynamic and changing environment, it has increasingly become difficult for traditional companies to operate, more so the high technology companies like the telecommunication operators and service providers. This research would be to study the change in the telecommunication space due to the change in the external environment and the emergence of the proverbial new economy. By means of case studies and analysis of the environment, it was found that although companies are both aware and implementing changes to adapt to the risky and unce1tain external economic conditions, yet they are far away from achieving what would be termed a comfort zone from which to operate and align their technological strategies with their business strategies and goals. |
