AbstractIT industry is becoming highly competitive due to the technological developments and worldwide competition. In such competitive environment new technology I knowledge have become important for the companies to attract new customers as well as to increase the revenue. Organizational growth, as well as survival, is becoming more dependent on innovation, yet no company or organization can hope to have all its required technology to be developed in -house. Thus, at some stage, it will be necessary to import technology. With the increasing globalization of international business, the high-technology sector has become a major segment of foreign trade. The technology to be transferred and the target markets may be changing, estimating cost and prices can be difficult. Critical factors for success in this competition are the ability of a firm to effectively and quickly transfer technology across national boundaries. In case of IT industry diffusion of technology/ knowledge is of more importance. Mere technology/ knowledge transfer will not help. It is only the first step. The utilization of knowledge units and knowledge management capabilities of the recipient organization will ultimately determine the success of IT knowledge transfer/ technology transfer. Technology transfer issues was considered in detail and the process of technology transfer in Indian IT industry was identified with respect to buying and selling of technology. The main factor that facilitates or hinders the transfer of technology in IT industry was identified and methods have been suggested to reduce the factors that hinder the transfer process, and in particular, where the technology is complex. A case of knowledge management process of an Indian IT firm was studied to understand the KM process. Based on these findings some suggestion for technology transfer, Knowledge management and future research work is made.
