Abstract | Banking business has been dramatically changed, thus all banks need a good corporate governance to support these changes they have been dealing with. Since banks are subjected to a wide array of risks in the course of their operation, now risk management is considered as a strategic necessity and become a core competency for them. Even most of the Thai commercial banks' risk management is in the start up stage, risk management is still rapidly growing and more competitive due to a better understanding of Thai commercial banks about how risk management work and how it can benefit them. They are continually improving concepts and methodologies for risk management. The trends toward more proactive, comprehensive formal and consistent risk management approaches are increasing. Since the risk management is emerging so strong at this time in banking business, this research study wants to find out what the main risk factors are for Thai banks especially for Thai commercial banks and how can they use risk management strategies to prevent and mitigate those kinds of risks. This research will rise a case of UOB-radanasin Bank in order to better understand and also overcome challenges of risk management. Risk management will be a strategy to address the potential competitive advantage and to make the abstract nature of banks' operation more concrete. Hence, it could be useful and advantageous for UOB-radanasin bank to measure how strong its risk management is in a current financial situation and generate applicable recommendations to enhance sound risk management in order to build strong risk management. Furthermore, they will provide some useful ideas concerning risk management strategies and give some effective idea to develop risk management strategies for Thai commercial banking business to have good processes to identify, measure, monitor, and control their risks. To do so, not only banks losses should be reduced, but they might also potentially enhance the strength and growth of Thai economy. |
