AbstractIn most contemporary business management studies, Information technology is mentioned as competitive weapon to enable and add value to business strategies and performance. However, there is increasing concern that this anticipated value is not always being achieved. The main reason for this is a lack of alignment between Information technology and business operations in each specific firm. In this research work, practical issues that impact the alignment between business and information technology in a specific business organization of Vietnam Airlines were identified. Through a survey, how important the business organization should pay for each affected factor to improve the alignment was also identified. From the research, it was found that there is a relationship between the improvement of these issues and the increase in business performance. A total solution to improve the identified issues that will allow information technology to better contribute value to the business unit was proposed as the recommendation of the research. This research may help the management of Vietnam Airlines to better exploit information technology to achieve its business targets in supply and material management field and contribute to the business performance of Vietnam Airlines as a whole.
