AbstractThe main objective of Location Management strategy for Mobile IP is to improve the performance of the standard Mobile IP by reducing registration delay and packet drop probability in the Internet which provides better support for micro mobility. In this research study, the performance of two Mobile IP with Location Management strategies: Mobile IP with Dynamic Routing Agent (DRA) and Mobile IP with Fixed Routing Agent (FRA) that combines a movement-based location update scheme have been evaluated and compared to the performance of the standard Mobile IP in terms of registration cost, packet drop probability and packet tunneling cost. Also, the influence of distance between home agent and foreign agent, mobility rate, packet arrival rate, transmission cost and movement probability has been investigated into the performance of Mobile IP to obtain the comprehensive results. Based on simulation results, Mobile IP with DRA and FRA scheme can improve the perfo1mance of the standard Mobile IP by reducing registration delay and packet drop probability. Mobile IP with FRA scheme performs slightly better than Mobile IP with DRA scheme when compared to the distance between home agent and foreign agent, mobility rate, and transmission cost. While Mobile IP with DRA scheme performs better than Mobile IP with FRA scheme when directional movement is considered. However, packet tunneling cost for Mobile IP with DRA and FRA scheme is slightly higher than that of the standard Mobile IP.
