AbstractA detailed literature survey work is done in this research study to find out the present status of researches and knowledge about the channel characteristics in the millimeter wave band. In doing so, general channel characteristics are given. In outdoor environment, millimeter-wave channel has strong attenuation by oxygen absorption, water vapour, foliage etc. Attenuation also depends on weather conditions. Reflections and the associated amount of signal diffusion are strongly dependent on the reflectivity of the reflecting material. It has high diffraction loss. In indoor environment, the propagation is strongly influenced by specific features such as layout of the building, the construction materials and building type. Penetration loss of materials should be considered in millimeter frequency band. Human body shadowing is a big problem in indoor environment. The millimeter wave channel models are also given in this research. A statistical channel model represents the statistical properties of the channel based on measurements. Deterministic channel model uses ray tracing method can predict some channel characteristics in indoor environment. Finally, with channel characteristics in millimeter wave band, this research has provided an overview about radio wave propagation characteristics and channel models for future millimeter-wave applications. lll
