Abstract | This research investigated the effect of weather conditions on traffic accidents. The study area is the First Stage Expressway in Bangkok. The information is composed of two sets of data: traffic data and weather data. The traffic accident information was obtained from the Expressway and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (ETA) and the meteorological information were collected by Thai Meteorological Department (TMD). Initially, this study attempted to employ the different techniques to determine the weather effects on traffic accident. Not only multi-factor relationship between weather factors and accident are determined, but this study also determined the single relationship between each individual factor. In addition, this study also identified the hazardous locations based weather condition. It was found that the number of hazardous locations associated with adverse condition are higher than the number of hazardous locations associated with normal condition. Furthermore, this study also developed the computer package to assist in analyzing and presenting results of the findings, by using Microsoft Access and Microsoft Visual Basic. The database is designed to store and manage information obtained from both ET A and TMD. Likewise, Geographic Information System is linked to this developed package to display the result of analysis of weather conditions related to accidents geographically. |
