Abstract | Three-phase AC induction is the most widely used type of motor in the industry. Motor manufacturers around the world design, manufacture and test the motors using several different standards. These different standards adopt different procedures, instrument accuracy units, and assumptions in evaluating the motor efficiency, which is one of the most significant performance parameters. It is difficult to compare the efficiency figures of the different motors if they are from different origins or tested under different standards. This study aimed to develop a methodology to compare the efficiency of induction motors tested using different test standards. The strategy used is to compute the efficiency using an equivalent circuit. The equivalent circuit is obtained from a minimum amount of information, which are commonly provided with motor specification sheets. The data used to obtain the equivalent circuit include only the measured parameters excluding the efficiency value. The algorithms necessary to compute the equivalent circuit parameters are presented. A computer program to compute the equivalent circuit is developed. The equivalent circuit parameters are computed from the selected sample of motors and the accuracy of the algorithm was checked against the motor test data. |
