Abstract | This thesis analyzes the alliance issues in a supply chain, which must be considered before converting to the third party warehouse system from the traditional warehouse system. The goal of the research is to help companies to better understand the benefits of the 3PW system. The research is conducted using the data collected at an electrical company in Vietnam. Under the traditional warehouse system, there is mistrust between partners and the mistrust leads to bullwhip effect. The bullwhip effect causes extra expenses in the supply cbain. To mitigate this problem an approach using the 3PW system is proposed. Under the system, customers will share demand information with the other partners. Consequently, demand uncertainty will be reduced, which results in better demand forecast and thus in lower costs. The new relationship will benefit all the partners in the supply network. The assessment of the two systems is based on four indices: reorder amplification, time benefit, holding cost and shortage cost. The calculations of indices can be done simply by using the Excel spreadsheet. Simulation models are also built to allow for study of larger and more complicate inventory systems with more parts, vendors, and plants. Two hypothetical systems are also studied using the simulation models. |
