AbstractThis study concerns the development of forecasting and production planning models for a transformer manufacturing company. In the forecasting part, decomposition model is used to forecast the demand with trend and seasonal components. The model is proven as a good forecasting one. Results obtained from the forecasting model are compared with actual data. In the production planning part, it is a multi-product, multi-period problem with resource constraints. This problem is firstly formulated as a linear programming model. The objective is to identify the production quantities, inventory level and overtime requirement that minimize the total cost (including production cost, labor cost and holding cost). Next, the production planning model is developed to deal with fuzzy demand and capacity. Fuzzy demand and capacity are expressed as triangular fuzzy numbers. The multi-product, multi-period aggregate production planning problem with fuzzy demand and capacity is modeled into a fuzzy linear programming with fuzzy objective and fuzzy constraints. The fuzzy solution approach to the model is suggested in the study. The feasibility of the production plan has also been checked by rough-cut capacity planning.
