AbstractHard disk drives are the primary device for storage of data in personal computers. In 2001, more than 200 million hard drives were shipped around the world. A critical component of this assembly is the suspension, this thin piece of stainless steel hold the reading and writing device. A high accuracy is needed for its manufacturing. One of the main properties of the suspension is its gram load corresponding to its stiffness; this force has to be micro-adjusted in order to accurately counteract the aerodynamic forces of the air bearing created between the medium and the read/write head. This thesis proposes a study of an existing gram load adjust machine. From this observation, recommendations are done in order to improve the adjustment. Without changing the process, a new controlling algorithm based on artificial intelligent tools such as neural network and Fuzzy logic is proposed. This new tuning system is developed to replace the actual manual tuning which does not give an optimal result.
