AbstractAs the Internet evolves towards the global multi services network of the future, a key consideration is support for services with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). Differentiated Services (DiffServ) is a scalable Class of Service (CoS) architecture, which provides scalable QoS guarantee to aggregate of traffic flow. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) provides fast packet forwarding and with explicit routing it can also perform Traffic Engineering (TE). So MPLS with DiffServ can give network designers the flexibility to provide differential treatment to certain QoS classes that need path protection. For maximizing the network optimization, it is desirable to route one class of traffic to different Label Switch Paths (LSP). This thesis work deals with the interoperability between DiffServ and MPLS architectures, for the provision of services with an a priori known quality level over both environments. In this proposed scheme, we have put multi class of service traffic to every LSP with some predefined weight. This architecture will allow service providers to offer both qualitative and quantitative services while optimizing the use of underlying network resources. Simulations prove that proper mapping among traffic classes of each world is necessary in order to achieve the desired end-to-end traffic characteristics.
