AbstractTransmission system plays a vital role in electric system of every country. The construction of new transmission facilities, such as lines and substations, requires long term planning and large capital investment. The main purpose of transmission interconnection expansion planning is to determine the locations and sizes of new transmission facilities in order to meet future demand in economical and reliable manner of every country as well as neighbor countries. Therefore, careful study to evaluate the planning is required. This study identifies the concepts of power transfers on transmission line, stability considerations, applied to the Vietnam's 500 kV transmission interconnection planning with Lao PDR and Cambodia for 2003-2015. Analysis and evaluations of the transmission interconnection system with generation planning aim to satisfy the forecasted load demand under thermal limitation, voltage limitation and small signal stability limitation. The study also includes recommendation to improve the stability of 500 kV system based on the results of analysis and evaluation. Power World software is used to simulate the existing and planned system in the future.
