AbstractEnergy is the cornerstone of economic development insofar as an energy shortage will make infrastructure building and basic life conditions impossible. The growing energy demand related to population increase as well as the exhaustion of fossil fuel resources tackle the problem of energy production anq supply. According to economic analyses, the nuclear option appears to be the best solution to produce high electricity capacity while optimizing resources, environment quality, safety and cost. Sustainable economic development also results from the priority given to cooperation between countries, generally involving an industrialized and a developing country. A cooperation in the energy sector can take the form of a technology transfer allowing developing countries to adopt and perform industrial competences and processes to become self-reliant in production. This paper will focus on the Sino-French cooperation in the nuclear industry. French and Chinese companies have developed successful working relations in order to transfer and acquire specific knowledge in terms of engineering, maintenance and operations. The mutual confidence, which has been gained, has provided the required basis to develop this cooperation on the long-term, particularly to face the new current challenges related to expatriation, energy market opening and sustainable development policy implementation.
