AbstractSince 1997, debt restructuring became a new alternative for financially troubled companies determining their survival and subsequently their potential competitiveness. The government has amended the bankruptcy law to allow the qualified debtors to restructure their bad debts through the Court process and created the Central Bankruptcy Court for this purpose. Besides, Thailand helped on the creation of a number of formal and informal institutions to help the companies to better restructure. This research deals with the main regulations, guidelines and institutions involved in debt restructuring in Thailand. The study also gives the case study of six listed companies that had to undergo financial restructuring. The analysis shows that many restructuring strategies were used: capital increase, capital reduction, rescheduling of repayments and relaxation of interest rates, conversion of notes into equity, transfer of the ownership of assets to an AMC ... etc. It also shows that the debt forgiveness was very high in some cases and in some others after restructuring the films still have heavy obligations and their success to comply with the conditions of a restructuring plan depends on their future operations. A summary of the case and conclusion were drawn for a better understanding of the reader.
