Abstract | Venture capital is beyond passive investment and direct financing. It is a theoretically integrated technology where venture capital firms (VCFs) become a value added cohort for investee firms. In this report, we focus on venture capital for start up software firms and growing software firms in Thailand. We briefly describe the spectrum of investment process, comprised of entry stage, operating stage, and exit stage. Nevertheless, we focus on entry stage and operating stage because the age of venture capital in Thailand for start up software firms and growing software firms is relatively young, with only first two stages now. Then, we present various evaluation criteria identified by VCFs, and investigate the different perceptions between VCFs and new software firms (Start up software firms and Growing software firms). The research study is primarily carried out through a survey of VCFs, start up software firms, and growing software firms in Thailand. From the analysis of research study, VCFs do not truly provide start up software firms and growing software firms with assistance for marketing, technology transfer, and product planning. These assistances are really needed by start up software firms as well as growing software firms. Nevertheless, VCFs truly provide new software firms with management assistance, financial assistance, and regulation& law assistance. Both start up software firms and growing software firms greatly need all financial assistances, marketing assistances and regulation& law assistances from VCFs but do not want VCFs to get involved their management. Discussions on the empirical results and a number of recommendations for narrowing the gap between VCFs and new software firms (Strut up software firms and growing software firms) are presented. Moreover, recommendations for Software Park Thailand and Thai Government are included. |
