AbstractKnowledge management is the talk of successful organization of the twenty-first century. Managing knowledge has become a nightmare for construction engineers in the Construction Industry. The trouble being that knowledge is not a tangible resource and the most valuable knowledge is usually embedded in people and thus makes it quite difficult to 'get' it out. Rather, it is being stolen nowadays. This thesis therefore proposes and describes a model of knowledge management attributes to understand the knowledge management practices that are likely to exist in such environment. The role of the construction engineer in this demanding task is highlighted. The applied qualitative research technique used is the focus group. This enabled construction engineers to sit together and give account of various knowledge management practices in the industry and also make recommendations to solve arising problems therein. The findings of this research comprise of various knowledge management techniques and tools used by construction engineers and they are seen to center around culture, politics and intra-organizational knowledge transfer. However, due to time limitations of this study, it is recommended that these investigated attributes be directly administered to construction workers on site and a means of knowledge assessment may thereafter, be developed. These are however, recommendations for further study.
