AbstractOne significant aspect facilitating construction organizations to accomplish the goal of project completion and profit maximization is materials management. Materials and equipment are some of the highest capital investments in any construction project and thus need to be managed accordingly. The purchasing process, which is a vital component in materials management, plays an important role of acquiring the materials from the most appropriate sources. This study focuses on developing an Electronic Purchasing Agent System, which is utilized to facilitate the materials purchasing processes of the contractors and suppliers. A compilation of the past literatures and additional investigations are used to identify the business processes involved in purchasing construction materials. This study centers around creating a semiautonomous system to be launched and implemented on the Internet with an additional feature of an in built evaluation process By identifying the fundamental system requirements, a prototype was developed using MS. Visual Basic and MS. Access on a computer network system. This prototype was tested for verification and validation and was later refined to produce an effective and efficient system The final EPA is made to accommodate the needs of the purchaser and supplier and thus, an EPA-Purchaser and EPA-Supplier was constructed for them respectively. Recommendations enhancing the capability of the already designed system include the need for using the system beyond working hours and incorporating materials management tasks in order to produce a fully extensive system.
