| Abstract | This thesis reviews tunneling and underground construction in Vietnam. History of
tunneling is firstly reviewed. Relevant studies and researches on tunneling and geology
condition of Vietnam are brought forward. Literatures relating to tunneling in Vietnam are
briefly introduced in this study. Particularly, the geotechnical conditions of two urban areas of
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city are considered with respect to tunneling work. Selected case
studies are reviewed namely: Hoa Binh underground hydropower, Hai Van Pass tunnel, Deo
Ngang Pass Tunnel and Thu Thiem river crossing tunnel. Geotechnical conditions, design of
supports, methods of excavation and construction procedures of tunnels and underground
openings in these case studies are reviewed. |
