Abstract | Point-to-multipoint Available Bit Rate (ABR) service in ATM network is essential support to many data applications. ABR traffic management for point-to-multipoint connection controls the source rate to the maximum possible ABR Allowed Cell Rate (ACR) supported by the ATM switches on the paths from the source to all the leaves in the multicast tree. The switches, which replicate each data cell and Forward Resource Management cell (FRM-cell) received from the source then multicast the cells to all the destinations. The source receives feedback information from all destinations through Backward Resource Management cell (BRM-cell). The congestion control mechanism for point-tomultipoint ABR service with Wait-for-all algorithm, modification of ATM switch component in NIST ATM simulator, and simulation of WAN network in case study of Vietnam are the main objectives of this research work. In the case study the ABR connections share available capacity with Variable Bit Rate (VBR) traffic. The performance of ACR at sources, traffic at bottle-neck link, and the effect of ON-OFF VBR traffic has been studied. The consolidation noise is affected by ON-OFF VBR traffic and the round trip delay of RM cell. The far source has higher consolidation noise than near source because the backward RM has longer delay to control source rate. The simulation results indicate that in presence ·of 2 ms ON-OFF VBR traffic, Wait-for-all algorithm has good performance in studied WAN environment. |
