AbstractCDMA WLL technique based on narrow band IS-95 is the standard that is recognized to be deployed as a solution for the developing countries, especially for a country having low communications infrastrncture like Vietnam. This research focuses on HCMC Starex-Wireless Local Loop system and its performance. Field strength over the coverage areas of this system is measured for some months of the year and then some methods to improve the system coverage are studied. In addition, system traffic data including blocking and throughput parameters are collected for hourly, daily and monthly. Based on these data, some methods are considered in more detail and performed in order to improve throughput of the system (including reduction of co-channel interference). On the other hand, a comparison on system performance between TDMA WLL and CDMA WLL system (in HCMC, Vietnam) also is considered in this research to prepare for continuation of phase two (starting at the end of2003). As position effects of this research, coverage range of the system is extended and number of "coverage holes" is reduced at a minimum level. In addition, the number of unsuccessful calls also decreased with methods shown in chapter four. However, it is necessary to upgrade this narrow band CDMA WLL to provide customers - end-users and network service operators alike - with the best combination of flexibility, modularity, and advanced features.
