AbstractAutomotive repair shops produce various types of waste-some hazardous, some not- but still potentially damaging to the environment. At present, 94 percent of Thai automotive repair shops are out of control on waste production, operation and management by laws and office regulations. In Thailand, many programs have already been implemented in order to encourage the reuse and recycling of the wastes of the automotive repair shops, but environmental impacts and nuisance still exist despite the implementation. Therefore, the environmental management for Thai automotive repair shops should think, plan and start considering the systematic and whole management approach. Its environmental management should encourage managing either at the shops level such as utilization, green purchasing, good housekeeping, wasting reduction, etc., on at the local and national level hazardous waste declaration, waste exchange center, best available technology, etc. The importance tools that need for environmental management for Thai automotive repair shops have to balance altogether the regulation, economic and suasiveness.
