Abstract | The first heavy rail underground train in Bangkok, the Blue Line or Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line for the Mass Rapid Transit System is unique because of the local present ground condition. It is a challenge for all companies and engineers working on that project to let it become a success and set the foundation stone for further tunnel projects and also more underground railway lines in Bangkok and Thailand. This research reviews the different applied methods for ground treatment and construction and their effectiveness as well as some of the design principles required for every construction. The results are summarized related to the local present geological condition, construction design and layout, which have given every construction their own characteristics. This is composed of especially intervention shaft and cross passages constructions, station and entrance structures, pump sump constructions and the depot approach ramp. |
