AbstractA prolonged acid treatment at an elevated temperature, significantly improve the removal of trace metals from wood and pulp, compared to standard chelation and the water extraction techniques. In the present research work iron, manganese and copper were analyzed from the wood of Eucalyptus camaldulensis. Concentration of iron and manganese from both wood and pulp found remarkable with the dry combustion method while in the case of copper; the metal concentration was detected only as a trace amount. These trace metals were detected from only one of three samples of wood and its pulp. Concentration of the copper with rest of the wood and pulp was below the detection limit of the instrument, hence were not detected properly. In the case of EDTA and water extraction techniques, the metal concentration was observed with only two of tluĀ·ee pulp samples. Manganese was only the metal detected with these two samples. The rest of the parameters i.e. iron and copper were not detected with in the detection range of the analytical instrument. Based on the metal extraction capacity of different methods applied in the extraction of different trace elements from wood and the pulp, the dry combustion method was highly efficient and effective. As the potentiality of the method towards the extraction of iron, manganese and copper was high with compared to the other methods (EDTA and water extraction techniques) applied for the same purpose.
