AbstractThe Ma Dua Dam is 90meter high Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Dam will be constructed across the Khlong Ma Dua River, at Nakhon Nayok province, Thailand. The dam will be found on the volcanic rocks formation of rhyolite, andesite, tuff and agglomerate of Permain to Triassic age which is locally covered by valley deposite of clay, silt, sand and gravel. Engineering geology mapping of the Ma dua dam site was carried out along the Dam axis. Laboratory tests were conducted on core specimens of rhyolite, tuff, agglomerate and andesite rocks for determining physical properties, strength and modulus of elasticity. The results from the laboratory tests have shown that these volcanic rocks have medium to high strength with medium to high modulus ratio. The rock mass classification, the Geomechanics classification and Q-system were used to classify rock mass quality. The quality of rock mass encountered in the project was classified as fair, good and very good rock.
